It's been a long road for one of the most iconic landmarks of Puerto Vallarta, but finally after more than two years in the making, on Friday, January 4, we'll have our renewed and beloved Pier back.
The new Los Muertos Pier suffered a series of setbacks during its construction, the most difficult to overcome was with no doubt the absence of funds to finance the project.
Once the works on the pier started, it ran out of funding. The reasons were never clear, but it seemed that the new Malecon took all the money available and the pier was left alone for months.
Finally, the State government took over the project, and we'll have our new pier in a couple of weeks. For the new Los Muertos Pier to be ready, it needed a total investment of 80 million pesos.
As always, we've already heard negative comments among the people who say that it is too modern, and that it has nothing to do with what Puerto Vallarta stands for. But those same comments were heard when the new Malecon was inaugurated and it has already been awarded for its architectural achievements.
Let's give the new pier a chance. Our town is in a permanent transformation, the old little fishing village that Puerto Vallarta once was, is not here anymore. Just take a look at the huge towers all over the bay.
Next Friday, January 4, the Governor of Jalisco, Emilio Gonzalez, and Puerto Vallarta Mayor, Ramon Guerrero, will be there at the most popular of our beaches, to inaugurate and give a warm welcome back to our new and beloved Los Muertos Pier.
See you there!
