fishing-tournamentAfter a long wait, on Saturday three marlin were measured in their regulatory weight, but the first places of Friday conserved the lead and took the prizes, in the 7th Fishing Tournament of Marlin and Tuna of the Fishing Club of Banderas Bay

The afternoon of the second day of competition three new specimens of Marlin were presented to weigh-in at the amphitheater of Paradise Village, but the leaderboard did not change. This is because Juan Moll, aboard the boat 'Maverick' , presented a weevil of 117.400 kilograms which allowed him to stay in third place, despite that Luis Manuel Ocaranza, in 'El Matador', had registered one a little earlier of 115.600 that had supplanted Moll for a few minutes from the prize.
Also on the second day of competition the boat of the hosts, the Fishing Club of Bahia de Banderas, with Rodolfo Barcenas Escudero to the head, presented a 105.900 kilogram weevil to place in sixth position. In the two days of competition there was no catch of gold fish, tuna or sailfish in the regulatory weight, therefore the awards were deserted.

Then came the awards, but not before raffling many of the prizes among members of the registered fishing groups, which were attended by members of the board, led by Alberto Sánchez Cardenas.

When it was his turn to speak, he said that it was a good tournament, with few competitors but all in good spirits for participating in this tournament which gradually has been consolidated, especially thanks to the sponsors that help us.

On the subject of the lack of tuna, he said that it is probably due to the tuna vessels, which are very close to the coast and devour everything, but there are going to be talks with the Harbor to check the situation, as it is not certain. "Now we are going to prepare for the Fishing Tournament of Puerto Vallarta in November."

Vallarta Opina spoke with Esteban Torres Soto, captain of the team "Ana Maria", with over 20 years of experience, who narrated how it was that they pulled out the specimen that gave them the first place and how they barely got there in time for the weighing.

"It was up to the last minute. We had little time to get to the scale and we had to apply a little more pressure to the spool to be able to make it on time, but thank God we got there 3 minutes before closing time", he says with the satisfaction of a winner in the face.

Similarly he said that the marlin was captured in a place known as "the bank", which is located 46 nautical miles from the Marina of Nuevo Vallarta and was where most of the boats went, "there were a lot of dolphins who would not let us fish, we would complain because they would take the bait, but being stubborn we continued and at last we were lucky and we made it", he says while indulging in a drink from the sponsors.

The now famous "Tibi", also known as Esteban Torres, said that they have been fishing in most of the tournaments, or about 12 a year, but this year, due to external factors, this is just the first one, and they could no longer be in six. He said that they are going to the tournaments of Topolobampo, Mazatlan, Los Cabos, San Blas and in Puerto Vallarta he says that they have already won about 12 tournaments in the Marlin category and that they expect to take the one of this year.

It should be remembered that the team "Ana Maria" pulled a marlin of 262.500 kilograms, with a height of 3.49 meters, a billfish that was good enough to give them that coveted title during the 7th International Fishing Tournament of Tuna and Marlin of Banderas Bay, in Riviera Nayarit.
