rivierafrontRiviera Nayarit continues to outpace other resort destinations with incredible growth in tourism numbers, showing a 12.5% increase for the first half of 2016 over the same time period in 2015.

Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Rivera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, attributes the growth as a “reflection of the work accomplished by the CVB, the hotel associations, the authorities who demonstrated an interest and a commitment to boost the destination, the businesses who offered their best services and of all the working citizens who represent our destination day after day.”

Banking on the long term potential of Punta Mita and Riviera Nayarit as a major draw on the tourism market, airlines have begun adding more and more direct flight routes, including, most recently, a newly added daily service between Oakland, California, and Puerto Vallarta.

The ease of travelling to Riviera Nayarit means that more visitors than ever are visiting this part of Mexico.

Riviera Nayarit saw 184,136 additional visitors this year over 2015, an increase of almost 16%, which led to hotel occupancy rates of 80.88% for the first half of 2016.
But it’s not only the foreign tourist market that is attracted to Riviera Nayarit. “It’s important to point out the amount regarding the economic impact is stated in US dollars,” explained Marc Murphy. “Last year’s exchange rate was 15 pesos per dollar, this year it’s at 18 pesos. Even after factoring this in we still have a higher figure this year over last year’s, which indicates both domestic and foreign tourists have increased their expenditures and that is precisely one of our key objectives.”

American Airlines announced a new daily, direct flight from the Los Angeles International Airport to the Lic. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport, starting on December 15, 2016. The connection will increase airlift between Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit with the top destination of origin for tourists from the United States to the Destination.

“The increase in flights to Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta is excellent news,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We know about several other flights that are in the process of being confirmed, and we really hope to be announcing those as well sometime soon.”
