A Long-Awaited Concert.
Next Friday, March 7, the next concert of Caloncho, a very famous alternative pop band in Jalisco, will take place at the Vallarta Theater. The concert will take place at 8 pm and is already highly anticipated by Puerto Vallarta fans.
Óscar Alfonso Castro Valenzuela, known artistically as Caloncho, is a Mexican singer and composer born on December 20, 1986 in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. Although he was born in Sonora, much of his childhood was spent in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where he began his foray into music. Initially, he played the drums, but later he leaned toward the guitar, an instrument that he learned to play on his own. The name "Caloncho" comes from a nickname that his grandfather gave him during his childhood.
In 2011, he released his first demo titled "Homeothermo." Later, in 2013, he presented the EP "Fruta", produced in collaboration with Siddhartha. This work earned him recognition in the independent music scene, obtaining four nominations at the 2014 Indie-O Music Awards, of which he won in the categories of "Pop Album" and "Solo Album". In addition, "Fruta" was nominated at the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards in the categories of "Best Alternative Album" and "Best New Artist".
Throughout his career, Caloncho has explored various genres and collaborations. In 2019, he released the EP "PA", inspired by his experience as a father, and that same year he formed the duo "Vacation" with musician David Aguilar, with whom he published the album "Tiempo Compartido". During the 2020 pandemic, he worked on his album "Malvadisco", released in 2021, where he addressed introspective themes and explored new sounds.
In 2024, Caloncho presented his album "Tofu", composed of ten songs that celebrate the simplicity and depth of everyday life. This work earned him a nomination for a Latin Grammy in the category of "Best Pop Vocal Album". The release of "Tofu" was accompanied by a world tour that included performances in cities such as London, Berlin, Buenos Aires and various locations in Mexico.
In addition to his musical career, Caloncho has a degree in International Relations from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Campus Guadalajara. His career reflects a constant artistic evolution and a commitment to exploring new musical facets.
Caloncho's next concert at the Teatro Vallarta, scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025 at 8:00 p.m., is part of "El Tour del TOFU". This tour celebrates his musical career and highlights his most recent album, "TOFU," nominated for Best Pop/Vocal Album at the 2024 Latin Grammys.
Although the exact repertoire for this concert has not been announced, it is likely to include a mix of his best-known hits and songs from the "TOFU" album. In previous performances, Caloncho has performed popular songs such as "Palmar," "Optimista," "Chupetazos," "Brillo Mío," and "Bésame Morenita."
