On October 17 and 18, the virtual bird watching will take place, in which the aim is to create a world record with the largest number of birds seen by the largest number of people.

At least 250,000 people are expected to participate in the Global Bird Weekend 2020, to be held virtually on 17 and 18 October at the initiative of the Global Birding Association, Bird Life International eBird and Swarovski Optik. The Riviera Nayarit, one of the best places for birding in Mexico, joins this initiative. The event will include the big eBird day in October, which aims to create a world record for the most birds seen by the largest number of people during this weekend of maximum bird migration. ALTERNATIVES The Global Bird Weekend emerged as an alternative to face-to-face sighting events that had to be cancelled due to the health contingency of the covid -19 pandemic. However, even though international trips were cancelled, people had to stay at home. On the positive side, many people became more aware of their local natural environment. "We do not recommend international travel for this event. We want people to stay in their own country close to home to minimize our carbon footprint. BIRDS The region is home to unique bird species such as magpies, herons, gulls, pelicans, swallows and, of course, blue-footed and brown boobies.

Bird watching In this sense the Riviera is home to some of the best places in Mexico for bird watching, making it a very attractive destination for the wide market of bird watching tourists in the world. In the months of October through March, birding opportunities abound from Sayulita to the San Blas mangrove, including the estuaries of San Pancho and El Pozo, and the natural reserve of La Tovara .
