The representative of the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris, for its acronym in Spanish), Julio Sánchez y Tépoz, met with Dr. Verónica Miller of the University of California at Berkeley to coordinate the First Course in Regulatory Sciences.

Both institutions led the First Meeting of the Technical Committee of Preparation for the UC Berkeley-Cofepris Regulatory Sciences Online Course.

The meeting informed that this course will be held during the first half of 2018, and will aim to disseminate information to understand the current situation of regulation of health products and practices in Mexico and abroad.

In addition, it was added that it is part of the strategy of dissemination of scientific knowledge in regulatory issues, promoted by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Republic, through Cofepris.

This academic activity will be directed to specialists in regulatory issues, medicine, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries; regulation in public health, health facilities and clinical practice, among others.

The event, promoted by the Center of Excellence Cofepris, also attended representatives of industry and academia, as well as different institutions in the health sector.

The Federal Commission recalled that health products and technologies have been regulated for more than a century in advanced regulatory systems (USFDA, 1906); however, two-thirds of the world's countries have begun to regulate these products only 30 years.

By 2017, medium-level regulatory systems represent the majority of United Nations member states (214 member states as of 2016) and more than 90 percent of the world's population.

In this sense, said in a statement, that Mexico has important advances in the area of ??health regulation and has been placed as a reference at the international level, so Cofepris adds efforts and alliances to close the gap of scientific knowledge.
